Centre timetable for 2018 to 2019
For nursery to year 2 children
Our mini music programme is the starting point for many of our pupils. We offer a carousel of activities for our Ladybirds (nursery and reception), Caterpillars (year 1) and Bumblebees (year 2). Each class does dance, drama and music and these are split into 30 minute sessions, thus creating our carousel.
Year 1 and 2 children have the option to stay and take part in ocarina and recorders, and Year 2 have an extended programme of ukulele, mini strings and recorder.
All instruments are loaned through the centre and the children have the option to purchase their own ocarina and ukulele through the centre if they wish.
For Key Stage 2 children
For younger children who perhaps have not started to learn an instrument yet, we have a variety of classes offering an opportunity to have a go at various instruments such as the ukulele, recorder, glockenspiel and percussion, which offer a great introduction to music. Children are encouraged to sing and take part in lots of fun music games in general musicianship, choir, creative music-making classes and music theatre.
For children already learning an instrument
Our other music groups include two orchestras, two jazz bands, two wind bands, two folk groups, a variety of string ensembles, woodwind groups, brass groups, guitar and ukulele groups, plus several percussion groups - including samba drumming and rock band. We also offer keyboards, theory and recorders.
We cater for all abilities - from the absolute beginner to the more advanced - and we cover an extensive range of musical genres from classical to rock and folk.
Drama and musical theatre
The drama and musical theatre groups are a great place to build confidence, and give our pupils an insight into the technical elements of drama through activities, games and performance opportunities. The centre has taken part in local festivals and performances, and have twice performed full-scale West End shows.
Dance
We are currently able to offer several dance classes – for beginner to advanced, and these include street dance, modern dance, advanced and junior classes and beginner and advanced ballet. We have a team of 4 fabulous dance teachers to take you through your steps and provide a wealth of styles.
