About the County Junior Strings
The CJS is the youngest string orchestra of the Music and Performing Arts Trust and rehearses on Monday evenings in the Richard Coles Hall at the
Kettering Road Music and Arts Centre from 5:15pm to 7:00pm. The conductors for the 2018 to 2019 season are
Kate Bickerdike and Samuel Ebrahim.
The orchestra provides a first experience of string orchestra playing for young musicians who might one day be in the
County Junior Orchestra,County Training Orchestra or
County Youth Orchestra. It plays music specifically designed for young string players.
Founded in 2005 it has already become a regular visitor to the finals of the National Festival of Music for Youth and has played in Symphony Hall and the Adrian Boult Hall in Birmingham. In November 2016 the orchestra appeared at the Music for Youth Prom in the Royal Albert Hall, many of the players having appeared there the year before, supporting Cornwall Youth Orchestra.
During the course of the year, the orchestra appears in several County Music concerts, including the annual "Highly Strung" and the New Generation Concert at the Derngate. The annual programme also includes a Residential Course at the Frontier Centre, Irthlingborough.
