County Junior Brass Ensemble (CJBE)

The County Junior Brass Ensemble in performance, New Generation Concert , Derngate, July 2014

About the County Junior Brass Ensemble

The CJBE is the junior brass group of the Music and Performing Arts Trust and rehearses on Tuesday evenings in The Edmund Rubbra Hall at the Kettering Road Music and Arts Centre from 6:15pm to 7:45pm. The conductors for the 2018 to 2019 season are Giles Liddiard and Rob Fleming .

The CJBE provides a first experience of ensemble playing for young brass players who might one day be in thCounty Training Brass Band or County Youth Brass Band, or quite possibly any of the other county groups.

Although it functions like a brass band, the instrumental line up often includes trumpets and french horns as well as cornets and tenor horns. Since it was first formed about 20 years ago, many of the county's best brass players have been members, and there are now former members in all of the county groups and most of the music colleges in the country.

During the course of the year, the ensemble appears in several county music concerts, including the annual Brass Band Spectacular and the New Generation Concert at the Derngate. The annual programme also includes a residential course at the Frontier Centre, Irthlingborough, and participation in the regional festival of the National Festival of Music for Youth.
