SEND delivery in schools

NMPAT’s Reach the Stars programme delivers practical music education with and for children and young people with additional needs, supporting Special Schools and DSP units (Designated Special Provision, in schools), throughout the county.

Through Reach the Stars we work to advance the equality of opportunity for young people to participate and engage through practical music making activities, by providing bespoke delivery and resources which are appropriate for individuals with additional needs, including those with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) and PMLD (Profound Multiple Learning Disabilities).

Participation in Reach the Stars enables young people to develop core life skills including confidence building, listening and working with and alongside other people, team work, nurturing communication and presentation skills, as well as engaging in a stimulating and creative activity.

Through these initiatives, young people can grow as individuals, which in turn contributes to enhancing confidence and self-esteem, increasing their concentration and attention span, and encourages social interaction.

NMPAT can provide all Special Schools in Northamptonshire with a fully funded bespoke music project.  This can be a full Reach the Stars project or a First Access style programme, tailored to the needs of the students.

Bespoke projects are delivered in weekly sessions over ten weeks and will be tailored specifically to the young people in each class / group.

Our Reach the Stars team can also deliver projects for:

  • Special Schools who would like a 10-week instrumental project in addition to their Reach the Stars project
  • Schools with DSP units who would like a 10-week bespoke project in addition to their First Access project

The costs for project delivery, in the 2023-2024 academic year, are based on ten weeks, with half a day delivery per week (2.5 hours contact time x 10 weeks):

  • Bespoke project delivered by two members of NMPAT staff: £2,600
  • Bespoke project delivered by one member of NMPAT staff: £1,300
  • Instrumental project delivered by two members of NMPAT staff: £1,200
  • Instrumental project delivered by one member of NMPAT staff: £700

NMPAT can offer small group and individual attention for children with additional needs, which will include the use of instruments, but not necessarily be focussed on any one instrument.  Sessions can be booked as an annual contract using the online SLA
