County Training Orchestra (CTO)

The County Training Orchestra in rehearsal for the Second Generation Concert, Derngate, July 2015

About the County Training Orchestra

The CTO is the second orchestra of the Music and Performing Arts Trust and rehearses on Saturday mornings in the Richard Coles Hall at the Kettering Road Music and Arts Centre from 9am to 12:30pm. The conductors for the 2016 to 2017 season are Chris Hiscock and Richard Roper (pictured).

The orchestra was created to be a training opportunity for students hoping one day to be in the County Youth Orchestra, but has become a strong performing group in its own right, which performs music from the standard orchestral repertoire as well as more modern repertoire, such as music for stage and screen.

During the course of the year, the orchestra appears in several county music concerts, including a separate concert of its own and the Second Generation concert at the Derngate. The annual programme also includes a residential course at Grendon Hall.
