County Training Strings (CTS)

The County Training Strings in rehearsal for the Second Generation Concert, Derngate, July 2015

About the County Training Strings

Emma pattersonThe CTS is one of the three string orchestras of the Music and Performing Arts Trust and rehearses on Monday evenings in the Richard Coles Hall at the Kettering Road Music and Arts Centre from 6:15 – 8:45pm. The conductors for the 2016 – 2017 season are Sonia Kelly (pictured) and Wendy De Barros.

The orchestra provides a training opportunity for intermediate string players who might one day be in the County Youth Orchestra, but has also become a strong performing group in its own right. It concentrates on developing sound string technique and developing section playing.

During the course of the year, the CTS appears in several county music concerts, including "Highly Strung" and the Second Generation Concert at the Derngate. The annual programme also includes a residential course at Grendon Hall.
