The Regional Festival
The National Festival of Music for Youth, run by Music for Youth (MFY), is a huge nationwide festival of music that begins in March with a Regional Festival series. There has been a regional event in Northampton for over twenty years and this is currently spread over three days:
- one day at Spinney Theatre, Northampton School for Girls
- two days at Cripps Hall, Northampton School for Boys.
Many of the County Music Groups perform at this regional event which is an opportunity to appear in a prestigious venue and receive valuable feedback from some professional music mentors.

The National Finals
As a result of the regional festival series, some groups are invited to perform at the finals of the National Festival, held for many years in July on London’s South Bank, but now housed in Birmingham based around the prestigious Symphony Hall, Town Hall and Birmingham Conservatoire.
Although the festival finals are non-competitive, the music mentors have the opportunity to give performance awards to particular groups whose performances have stood out in some way.
Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust has a proud record of involvement with the National Festival at Regional and National level.
