About the County Youth Choir (CYCh)
The County Youth Choir is the senior choir of the Music and Performing Arts Trust and rehearses on Wednesday evenings in the Richard Coles Hall at the
Kettering Road Music and Arts Centre from 7pm – 9pm. The conductor for the 2017 to 2018 season is Beth Hodgson.
Formed in 1990 by David Bray as the County Chamber Choir, the Youth Choir is a 4 part SATB choir. They quickly established a national reputation and in 1993 were chosen to be Classic FM's featured choir and in 1996 appeared at the Royal Festival Hall in a 75th Birthday Concert for Malcolm Arnold.
Under the direction of Stephen Meakins, Katherine Cook, Graham Tear and now Beth Hodgson, the choir has continued their development growing from strength to strength.
They have travelled on tour to Sweden, Italy, Switzerland and Belgium and have appeared at the finals of the National Festival of Music for Youth and Sainsbury's Choir of the Year. In the summer of 2016 they travelled to Spain with the County Youth Orchestra and in the summer of 2018 they will travel to the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
