About Jazz 3
Jazz 3 is the third big band of the Music and Performing Arts Trust and rehearses on Monday evenings in Room 3 at the
Kettering Road Music and Arts Centre from 6pm to 7:30pm. The director for the 2016 to 2017 season is Jamie Glew (pictured).
The rhythm section meets for a sectional an hour before the main rehearsal, 5pm to 5:45pm under the direction of Lee Smith. This invaluable opportunity allows the section to learn to play together as an effective unit.
The band was formed to provide a first experience of Big Band playing for students who might one day to be in
Jazz 2 or the
County Youth Big Band. It has a full instrumental line up and particularly aims to give members the first opportunity to experience improvisation in an ensemble setting.
During the course of the year, the band appears in several
county music concerts, including the annual
Big Band Night and the New Generation concert at the Derngate. The annual programme also includes a
residential course at Grendon Hall and competing in the regional round of the
National Festival of Music for Youth.
