Auditions information

Children singing in a choir as directed by conductor

NMPAT has an outstanding reputation for the quality and breadth of music and drama opportunities. Each year we run a series of auditions to establish the membership of the groups for the following year.

How do I apply for an audition?

Information about auditions will be sent to all members, Northamptonshire schools and colleges and Saturday morning Music and Performing Arts Centres at the start of the summer term. The auditions portal will open on 16 April 2018 for the July auditions. If you have been invited to audition for a current county group, you can use the portal to apply.

Applications are made online but first check the requirements for your particular discipline or instrument to see if you have reached the minimum standard:

Please note that before applying for an audition you should read the information on this page and the audition requirements.

  • Audition applications for 2018 can be made from Monday 16 April until Friday 25 May.

When do auditions take place?

Auditions for the county music groups and Youth Theatre take place towards the end of the summer term each year. All existing students are re-auditioned alongside new applicants.

2018 music auditions will take place from 10 July to 12 July and appointments could be anytime between 9am and 9pm. County Youth Theatre auditions will take place on 30 June between 1:30pm and 4:30pm.

Where are the auditions taken?

All auditions are taken at the Kettering Road Music and Arts Centre, 125 Kettering Road, Northampton, NN1 4AZ. We do have a small car park to the rear of the premises, turn off the Kettering Road into Clare Street at the traffic lights and then immediate left into the car park.

What can I apply for?

See our county groups page for further information of what opportunities are available. Your application will be for all the opportunities associated with your instrument or voice, rather than for a specific ensemble or group.

Who can apply?

Applicants will normally be young musicians, singers and actors who are still in full-time education and live or attend school within Northamptonshire, but applications are welcomed from gap year students and out-of-county residents.

Is there a charge?

The auditions are free of charge; however, if you are offered and accept a place in one of our county groups, there is a membership subscription - please see the fees and subscriptions page for details.

In cases of financial hardship, there is a scheme available: please contact us for more information.

What happens next?

You will receive an appointment by email about two weeks before the music auditions week. Your appointment could be any time between 9am and 9pm during the auditions period and appointments are not limited to after school hours.

Appointments, once issued, cannot be changed, except in exceptional circumstances.

All auditions are held at the Kettering Road Music and Arts Centre, 125 Kettering Road, Northampton, NN1 4AZ.

How do I know if I have got a place in a county group?

Results are emailed around late August, and all candidates will be notified.  If you are offered a place, all the information you need, including rehearsal days and times, is available on this website.
